The Candle’s Burning Low

The candle’s burning low now

It’s time for us to go

We loved it while it lasted

But the candle’s burning low.

We laughed and cried and wondered

And enjoyed the shining sun

We cowered as it thundered

But at last the rain was done.

Our hard times fell beside us

And our worries flew away

Our nightmares all receded

At the breaking of the day.

The candle’s burning low now

It’s time for us to go

We loved it while it lasted

But the candle’s burning low.

Our time flew by in hours

In seconds and in years

We’d grown a lovely garden

All watered by our years.

The clock hands never wavered

But we didn’t seem to mind.

It was in love we labored

Seeking what we’d never find.

The candle’s burning low now

It’s time for us to go

We loved it while it lasted

But the candle’s burning low.

It’s dark inside this place now

It’s hard to find out where

The lonely pathway wanders

Or if it’s even there.

I cannot feel your hand now

I call but you don’t hear

There’s no one left to worry

And no one left to fear.

The candle’s burning low now

It’s time for us to go

We loved it while it lasted

But the candle’s burning low.

It’s lonely where I’m going

It’s lonely where I’ve been

I’m waiting and I’m hoping

That I’ll see you again.

The clock is ticking softly

Its hands are growing slow

I wonder if you loved me

But now I’ll never know.

The candle’s burning low now

It’s time for us to go

We loved it while it lasted

But the candle’s burning low.

      1. Ah, yes! The struggle of wanting to create music and songs but not wanting to have to go to all the trouble of learning to read and WRITE music and become classically trained. I am in the same boat. I wish there was a way I could hum something and the notes would magically appear on the page.

      2. I keep hoping they’ll come up with an app that can do it for me. They’ve got one for everything else! I ought to ask my mother for advice since she can read music, but that would be too great a blow to my intense vanity to admit defeat.

      3. Yes! I’ve searched for an app as well! Nothing thus far but fingers crossed that some tech genius will step up. And yes, I feel you. I have musically gifted siblings and I’d prefer to just wish for something’s existence than ask for help.

      4. Until somebody comes up with one some sweet day, I’m stuck humming my off-key tune into the recording app on my phone. It’s gratifying to hear I’m not the only one too stubborn to request help on the principle of the thing. 😉
